Giant at the Cape Storm Freedom Challenge talk.

On Thursday evening Cape Storm presented an evening seminar on the Freedom Challenge and had about 250-300 people attending. Guest speakers were David Waddilove the organizer and founding father of the event, Tatum Prins finisher and potential first solo lady, Alex Harris-adventurer extraordinaire and Eugene Nel free spirited cyclist and equipment advisor.

Giant was invited to attend as all the above athletes ride and love Giant bikes. To raise some cash for community projects along the Freedom Challenge route we donated a Simple Single to be raffled out. It proved to be quite a hit - almost as much as the Giant bikes on display.

By 11pm (various glasses of wine consumed) all were ready to tackle the mountains and snow covered peaks. Next year will almost certainly be booked out!

We just unpacked the newest Santa Cruz stock and he's a sneak peak.

Here's the new Tallboy that follows on the huge success of the Tallboy Carbon.

Tallboys have become mighty popular bikes in the relatively short time since we introduced them, and they have been getting rave reviews from the press and, more importantly, from the thousands of riders who’ve rolled off into the sunset aboard them. The pairing of VPP suspension and 29” wheels created a fast rolling, crisp handling, versatile bike that exploits the benefits of big wheels to the best of their advantage, at home anywhere from remote alpine singletrack to crowded jittery start lines. By winning the team time trial on stage two in the 2011 Tour de France, the Garmin-Cervelo team achieved one of their biggest goals of the year. This hard-fought win required perfect planning and preparation by both the athletes and staff. Annika Langvad is Marathon World Champion

After showing a great performance in the previous Worldcup races, the danish athlete from team Easton rockets demonstrated that she´s in perfect shape this season. 27 year old Annika Langvad showed an enormously passionated race and became Marathon Worldchampion in Montebelluna, Italy.

Annika was in a chasing group with Spitz, Elisabeth Brandau (Germany) and Süss. After they closed the gap to Luethi, she started an acceleration that the others could not match, and was able to hold on to a sizable lead over Spitz to gain the rainbow jersey. After 4h 20min 30s she made the biggest step in her career so far. Sabine Spitz, Germany finished 1min 56s behind her and claimed 2nd place again after 2010. Esther Süss from Switzerland claimed 3rd place, 3min 23s behind Annika.

Langvad, who gained her first women elite title: I managed to stay calm, and as the kilometres to go decreased, I became more motivated. Also Sabine Spitz who was Marathon Worlchampion in 2009 was very happy with the result and confirmed, that she´s in a great shape at the moment.

It is the first Worlchampion title for SR SUNTOUR, too and we want to congratulate you again to this historic effort and we are proud to support you and your Team Easton Rockets. We wish you good luck for your next steps and we are looking forward to see you soon with your WERX AXON in
Worldchampion design.

Giant Vector Seatpost Cutting Guide

Congratulations on your purchase of Giant Vector Seatpost. Giant Vector Composite Seatpost (Figure 1) represents the latest achievement in design and engineering, but also requires special attention. While Giant Bicycle engineers use the design to achieve lightweight and aerodynamic, you must follow certain guidelines and use proper equipment to attain optimal performance.

WARNING

Failure to follow these instructions will void your warranty, and may result in hidden damage to the frame. Damage to the frame can cause loss of structural integrity, which may result in serious personal injury or death.

To meet the correct saddle height, the Giant Vector Seatpost might require cutting off at a specific length. Since the cutting of the Giant Vector Seatpost is a complicated task requiring training and experience, only Giant dealers should complete the sophisticated process.

Step 1

Install the saddle into Giant Vector Seatpost and put the saddle in a horizontal position. Adjust the seatpost up and down and identify the correct saddle height for you. If you find the saddle height is still too high for you when the seatpost already touch the inner wall of seat tube , it means the seatpost need be cut. (Figure 2)

WARNING

Please insert the seatpost into the seat tube gently when inserting it into seat tube. Hitting the seat tube with too much force can cause damage of the frame.

Step 2

Wrap the bar with several layers of masking tape in the area of the cut. This will ensure a clean cut with minimal unraveling of the carbon fibers. Put the seatpost in a horizontal position. To saw-off, carefully place the post in a vice with V-clamps. If possible, clamp the end which will be removed anyway. Please use a fine metal saw blade to cut the carbon post and use a fine sand paper to deburr.

WARNING

Be sure to wear appropriate safety equipment, such as glasses, gloves and a dust mask. Make sure not to inhale any of the dust!

Take care when finishing the cutting process to not splinter the composite

Step 3

install the saddle onto the seatpost and rechecking the Target Saddle Height.

WARNING

Once the saddle is at the correct height, make sure the seat post is inserted in the frame at least 80mm after cutting it. (see Figure 3)

Santa Cruz Bicycles "Syndicate" rider Greg Minnaar took 1st at Fort William in the UK this weekend and moves to 1st in the world standings. Giants Danny Hart cames 2nd with Brook Macdonald in 3rd on the day. Bike Radar has a good review of the race and all the results and standings so far.

Between the new SR Suntour stock and the Giant XTC Comp 29er coming in, the demand for Anthem X 29ers and even Trance X bikes flying off the shelves, we've had very little time for updates (and this doesn't change).

At least we all got out the office on Friday for the "Ride like King" day. Working so close to Table Mountain has it's advantages and the fun jeep track made for a good time. Racing against company MD down a mountain is just too much fun.

We're also working on the next range of Avalanche bikes, designed and spec'ed inhouse at Dragons Sports. Stay tuned for more on them soon.

SR Suntour donates 5.000.000 NTD to Japanese Red Cross

As a Japanese/Taiwanese company and even more as an Asia based company we feel closely connected to the people who were hit by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. A lot of infrastructure got destroyed and even worse a lot of people lost their homes and belongings.

Donating an am amount of 5.000.000 NTD (approx. 120.000) to Japanese Red Cross will not help to heal the wounds but it will help to support the people with simple things like blankets and fresh water which are more than needed at this moment.

Our thoughts are with the Japanese people and hope that the affected regions can recover quickly.

XTERRA WARRIORS PREPARE FOR DUESOUTH XTERRA SA CHAMPIONSHIP

Top local and international XTERRA Warriors are currently gearing up for the highlight of the XTERRA SA Season, the exciting DUESOUTH XTERRA SA Championship presented by REHIDRAT® SPORT. Taking place at the picturesque Grabouw Country Club this coming weekend (Saturday, 26 February 2011), participants and spectators alike can look forward to a day filled with endless racing pleasure.

Men’s Race ~ South African XTERRA legend, Conrad Stoltz made history in October 2010 when he became the first XTERRA athlete to be crowned XTERRA World Champion for the fourth time. According to Stoltz, he is in good form and looking forward to taking part at the XTERRA SA Champs in Grabouw. “All-rounders will love the mountain bike course in Grabouw as it features a bit of everything from climbs, to flats, single track, rocks and sand. Personally I love the technical single track. The run route is tough and features an enjoyable river crossing followed by a huge mountain climb that always keeps me humble. XTERRA is such a great sport. I knew it would just be a matter of time before it got big. The sporting community is filled with such dynamic, fun people. It really is great to be part of the global XTERRA family,” says Stoltz.

When asked about advice for first time competitors, Stoltz had the following to say, ““Don’t let the seemingly short distances fool you. Take your time, pace well and be sure to practice your skills before the race”.

Top XTERRA Warriors chasing Stoltz on the day will include Dan Hugo, Lieuwe Boonstra, Kent Horner and Nico Pfitzenmaier (Germany).

Women’s Race ~ The women’s race is sure to be a crowd pleaser with XTERRA Buffelspoort Champion, Carla van Huyssteen facing formidable opponent, Carina Wasle (Austria). Wasle took gold at XTERRA Grabouw in 2009, but was unsuccessful in defending her title in 2010 as the intense heat experienced on the day proved to be too much for her.

“Last year I arrived in South Africa two days before the event. Coming from 15C° to 40C°, I didn’t have time to acclimatise.

As luck would have it Grabouw experienced a severe heat wave on the day,” laughs Wasle. “I wasn’t going to make the same mistake, so this year I allowed myself one week in SA to get use to the weather before racing. I’m also planning to take more fluids with me on the bike. XTERRA Grabouw is one of my favourite races. The course is tough, but I love it. The people are friendly and the landscape is beautiful. The event is just tops”.

Cape Town's Stefan Garlicki send though a quick run down of the African DH Champs that went down this weekend. He qualified 2nd in prelims and did really well managing to finish 4th overall, even after having going down in the first corner. Giant's Andrew Neethling took the top spot on the day.

Giant Factory Off-Road Team pro Carl Decker was instrumental in the development of the new Anthem X 29er mountain bike. The American cross-country and Super D racer worked with Giant’s team of product developers to create a bike that featured the increased control, stability and traction associated with 29-inch wheel mountain bikes while maintaining the legendary quickness of the race-oriented, Maestro Suspension-equipped Anthem X.

Decker got his first prototype Anthem X 29er at the 2010 Sea Otter Classic in Laguna Seca, California, last April, and won the pro Super D race just a few hours after his first ride on it. “This bike felt pretty amazing,” Decker said after crossing the finish line. “I can tell you now I’m pretty much going to race this on everything this year. It’s super fast.”

Two months later, Decker won again on the bike at the Downieville Classic All-Mountain race in California. Throughout the season, he turned to the Anthem X 29er for all types of terrain and events, from World Championship cross-country races to marathons and Super D gravity events. “It’s a great bike and you can ride it in so many different circumstances,” Decker said. “If I was going to have just one bike, this would be it.’”

Mountain Bike day at Delheim raises funds for local charity

The annual Delheim MTB day will take place on the 21st of November at this
popular Simonsberg Winefarm. The beneficiary Anna Foundation will also have
kids that ride with fellow mountain bikers on great routes not normally open
to the public.

Riders and trail runners can choose a 7km option or the 12km ride. Mountain
bikers that need more of a challenge can attempt the 12km lap twice (24km),
as it has some good climbing and singletrack sections. Also a marked hiking
trail to Simonsberg at a R30 permit fee at your own leisure.

Cost ranges from R50 to R100 depending on distance and date of entry.
Remember to book your lunch at the restaurant and enjoy the whole day in the
Stellenbosch winelands.

That same evening the Dirtopia organizers will take nearly a 100 hikers to
the top of Klapmutskoppie for a Full Moon hike!

Cape’s oldest mountain bike event promises family fun.

The Spur Lourensford MTB Classic was first held in the late 1990’s and this year the organizers from Dirtopia has made sure the whole family can enjoy the spring day at this beautiful Estate in Somerset West on the 2nd of October.

The funride offers three MTB distances:

* 15km for children & novices. Forms part of IMBA’s “Take a kid MTBing day”
* 30km for intermediate riders
* 57km for experienced & fit riders
* 4km walk/run option too!

Route managers pulling out all the stops this year to ensure riders enjoy the day on their bikes with good waterpoints and back-up. At the finish the Lourensford Farmers’ market offers lots of quality stalls to browse though while waiting for the lucky draw where one lucky rider will walk away with a mountain bike worth R4000.

Kids will love the Spur kids entertainment area, while mom & dad can even go for a message!

Late entries will be accepted at registration on Friday, 1 October at Cycle Addiction in Somerset West and also on Sat morning from 06h30 at Lourensford. The long distance starts at 08h00 with other distances to follow with 30minute intervals.

Mountain Bikers to soak in healing waters after challenge in Caledon

The inaugural Staalwater Mountain Bike Challenge taking place on the 11th of September, will offer riders of all abilities the chance to explore the riding options in the Theewaterskloof municipality region.

The start/finish will be from the Caledon Casino where riders will get a half price entry discount to the mineral rich hot springs after the event. The whole family can enjoy a weekend away in the Overberg with fantastic accommodation specials with the Caledon Wildflower Show taking place as well.

Beginner riders and children can enjoy the flatter 15km route option to see the Spring flowers bloom. The 30km option takes riders to the well-known Voorhoede Farm for a very scenic route, with just over 550m of vertical elevation.
The 60km route of the Staalwater Challenge is a mix of private farms and district dirt roads. From the start riders will travel in the direction of Tesselaarsdal and the lowest point of the route. From here riders will climb up the pass (short tar section) before heading back into the farms and heading home.
The route offers less than 1000m of vertical elevation and it is expected to be a fast ride with a winning time of under 2 hours.

According to organiser Meurant Botha, the three routes will give riders a taste of what is to become a mountain bike destination in the future. In association with the Theewaterskloof Municipality, the African Mountain Bike Association is looking at developing this area with permanent MTB trails.
“We are excited to launch this new event to give riders a taste of riding in this beautiful region.” said Botha. “Riders should not attempt to ride the routes outside the event window though.”

Riders should make sure they pre-enter before the 6th of September to save and get extra goodies! Late entries will aslo be accepted at registration on the morning of the event. All riders stand a chance of winning a Giant Ovation mountain bike worth R3000 at the lucky draw. Lots of entertainment at the casino afterwards and for those staying over, you can also join Meurant on a social ride on Sunday.

Having completed the gruelling 2400km event in 21 days in 2009, we decided to see if we could improve our time this year, now having an idea of the route and what was required mentally.

The first few days from Maritzburg, through the 'tribal' lands of Old Transkei and into the Eastern Cape, gave conditions from over heating to down right Arctic!
We crossed Naude's Neck (highest pass in SA) at midnight in minus 10. Our water bottles froze solid and the road was ice (along with fingers and toes).
After these 'school fees' were paid, the weather Gods relented and gave us perfect riding to the end - the first storm clouting Cape Town, the night we finished, after 16 days and 18 hours.

To achieve this, we slept very little and rode long hours. Our biggest day took in 270km in 19 hours - Baviaanskloof to Prince Albert, via Willowmore. After that epic, we had a 4 hour doss and woke up to ride on up the Swartberg Pass and through Die Hel - another long day.

Eating enough solid food to keep energy levels up is the biggest challenge, and our we chomped through sandwiches, chips, pies, bananas and nuts constantly.

Our Giants stood the test for the second time round. Me on my Anthem X1, Ugene on his Trance X. I doubt you could give a mountain bike a better cross country wrestling match than this event. No punctures from our Maxxis Larsen TTs!

SPUR HIGH SCHOOL MOUNTAIN BIKE LEAGUE HEADS TO CONTERMANSKLOOF

Mountain bikers around the Western Cape can look forward to the action-packed Spur High School Mountain Bike League race taking place on Saturday, 24 July 2010 at Contermanskloof hosted by Dirtopia & Amarider.

Spur Steak Ranches, South Africa’s leading family restaurant group, launched the exciting Spur High School MTB league last year. The aim of the league is to create a safe, yet competitive racing environment for mountain bikers between the ages of 13 and 18. The Spur High School MTB League in association with Falke and Sportsman’s Warehouse will focus on raising the profile of mountain biking, whilst building recognition for this Olympic discipline within the school sport structure. The league will incorporate around 25 new and existing events staged by local clubs across the country between July and October before culminating in the action-packed finals to be staged in Gauteng on 16 October 2010 at the Cradle of Humankind.. Amarider, a non-profit organisation aimed at improving off-road cycling opportunities in Africa, will administer the league. Amarider facilitates the development of mountain biking by bringing new routes to riders and new riders to the sport.

According to series coordinator, Meurant Botha the track is ideal for all mountain bikers from novices to experts. “The route includes a combination of moderate climbs and descents through various terrain on the farm as well as a few easy single track sections. All in all it’s a really fun route. The Spur High Schools MTB League’s main aim is to create a fun racing environment where riders can compete as individuals while at the same time earn points for their High Schools. Riders can expect an awesome mountain bike experience,” says Botha.

A GIANT RIDE

The true heroes of any race are not always those people who occupy the podiums and receive the public accolades but often those who soldier on quietly and resolutely towards their goal of merely finishing. Occasionally the quiet and unassuming do something truly momentous. Such is the case with 2010 Freedom Challenger Glenn Harrison.

Riding a Giant 29er single speed, Glenn Harrison arrived at the Diemersfontein finish of the 2400 km Freedom Challenge Race Across South Africa on Wednesday June 31st at 20h20. No gears. No suspension. Cycling at its most basic. His journey from the race start in Pietermaritzburg across the interior of South Africa to the finish took him 15 days 14 hours and 20 minutes. In the process Harrison shattered the Freedom Challenge Single Speed record by six days.

To place Giant rider Harrison’s achievement in perspective, he finished less than two days outside the fastest ever recorded time for this mountain bike journey - by Springbok cyclist Tim James in 2009, and a day behind current race leader Alex Harris who finished at Diemersfontein on Tuesday afternoon in 14 days 8 hours and 10 minutes.

Giant rider Harrison started his journey with current front runner Alex Harris in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday June 15th. He struggled through the first few days with illness and bike issues. However by the time the Giant 29er Single Speed arrived at Toekomst on the Camdeboo Plains, which is beyond half way in the race, he was only three hours behind Harris. Despite conceding more than 5 hours to Harris when he got lost on the Perdeberg approaching the Baviaanskloof, Harrison was able to remain in touch by starting very early in the mornings and riding deep into the night. However, his progress was significantly slowed as he battled rutted surfaces on his rigid 29er frame and strong headwinds into Prince Albert. A major effort saw him ride the last two days with only 2 hours sleep before his record-breaking arrival at Diemersfontein.

However, this is not the first time that Harrison has taken on the Freedom Challenge. In 2007 he led the early part of the race through the Donnybrook forests before losing his way and being forced to sleep rough for the night. Illness later forced him to retire. In 2009 Harrison completed the race on a tandem with riding partner, Mike Woolnough. In the process he wrote himself into Freedom Challenge folklore by single handedly carrying the tandem through the 10 kilometres of the Stettynskloof valley, located shortly before the race finish. His injured partner spoke afterwards of how Harrison had carried the team over the second half of the trail without complaint.

With Giant rider Harrison now home in what is to so far the second fastest finishing time in the 2010 Freedom Challenge Race Across South Africa, attention turns to the rest of the field that have yet to finish. Freedom Challenge veterans Carl Crous and Marnitz “sponsored by PG Glass riding for Miles for Smiles” Nienaber and rookie rider August Carstens are all pushing hard towards Diemersfontein and it must now be seen whether they are able to finish faster than Harrison. If not the quiet and unassuming Harrison may yet also be on the podium and receive public accolades.

FIRST RIDERS FINISH 2400KM FREEDOM CHALLENGE

Diemersfontein Tuesday 29 June 2010

In the very dead of night on Tuesday June 29th Trevor Ball and Ugene Nel crested the Du Toits Kloof Pass and started the last 10 km descent down through the Hawekwas forest to be the first riders to the finish of the 2010 Freedom Challenge non-stop mountain bike race from Pietermaritzburg to Diemersfontein Wine Estate in Wellington.

Ball and Nel's lights were seen crossing the dam wall at Diemersfontein at 1:48am. Despite the late hour Ball's two children were wide awake and excited by their father's return. The adventure racing duo were part of the first group of riders to leave Pietermaritzburg on Saturday 12 June 2010 and successfully completed the 2400km race in 16 days and 20 hours. Whilst they had not set out to win the race or new records they were determined to remain the first two tyre tracks on the race course. Entering the last third of the race the determined pair started riding substantial distances and, over the last few days, worked off very little sleep as they rode deep into the night.

Leaving the support station at Rouxpos in the Swartberg foothills on Sunday morning Ball and Nel rode over 200 kms through the Anysberg Nature Reserve, across the Little Karoo to Montagu and on to MacGregor arriving just before midnight. They slept for an hour and then continued on, following the old wagon route over Coeniesrivier into the Agterkliphoogte Valley. Resisting the lure of great food and hospitality at the Oestervanger Guest House on the farm Kasra they then continued over the Trappieskraal to Trouthaven in the valley of the Holsloot, arriving in the early afternoon of Monday. Aware of the 10 km portage up the valley of the Stettynskloof that lay ahead they then pushed on. Arriving at the Stettynskloof Dam with three hours of daylight remaining, the fatigued pair elected to run the footpath that now threads its way up the valley, rather than risk having to find their way through at night. In the last light of the day they emerged from the valley and were able to pick their way down to the Elandspad jeeptrack. The last 22 kms of the race route from the Elandspad through to the finish at Diemersfontein Wine Estate normally take riders 2 hours to complete. It took the exhausted Ball and Nel 8 hours. Notwithstanding their debilitated state the two arrived in Diemersfontein in high spirits, "it was the best adventure yet" Trevor Ball "you think 16 days is impossible but then you get there and you find you can. Unbelievable fun." The two were being chased across in the latter half of the race by fellow adventurer Alex Harris. At one point Harris was only 6 hours behind them. However, their long nights and little sleep allowed them to keep ahead of him.

Alex Harris, the Freedom Challenge dark horse, arrived in Diemersfontein 12 hours after Ball and Nel, finishing on Tuesday June 29th at 14h10. Harris who started in Pietermaritzburg three days behind them, was forced to chase the two across the country, "you know what it's like chasing after 2 tire tracks for 14 days and to know that you are moving faster then them but still can't catch them" Harris completed his race in 14 days 8 hours and 10 minutes, the second fastest recorded time in the history of the Freedom Challenge. Whilst this was Harris’ first Race Across South Africa it was not his first time on the race course "I spent time in some of the tricky sections to make sure that I didn't have any navigation issues" Harris credits his quick time to sticking to his race strategy. "My strategy was to ride strong every day and avoid doing risky portages at night". True to his strate gy Harris arrived at the final support station at Trouthaven at 15h40 on Monday. When some of the other serious contenders and veteran campaigners might have pushed into the night, Harris bunked down for the night; "I wanted to do Stettyns in the light so I could see the path but also to appreciate the beauty of the valley after a very long race"

Firmly settled in at Diemersfontein, Harris must now wait to see how the rest of the field fares. Leading contender, Carl Crous, left the support station at Cambria on Sunday night at midnight and rode up the length of the Baviaanskloof to Willowmore, arriving in the late afternoon. Leaving again at midnight he continued across the expanse of the Moordenaars Karoo to Prince Albert. However, like so many of the riders further back in the field he was lashed by gale force winds and often forced to push his bike. Despite arriving in Prince Albert in the early afternoon and marginally ahead of Harris on lapsed time, he stopped for the day, stating “The wind has taken it out of me. My race is over”. However, by midnight he was on the move again and it must now be seen whether he can better the pace of Harris over the last 500 kms of the race.

Behind the scenes with a Rabobank pro

This new video from Giant takes you behind the scenes with Rabobank pro Lars Boom for a glimpse at the life of a pro cyclist. The 24-year-old rising star from The Netherlands has been selected to join teammates including 2009 Giro d’Italia champion Denis Menchov, three-time world champion Oscar Freire and fellow Dutch talent Robert Gesink at the upcoming Tour de France.

July 3 will be a special day for Boom. Not only does this year’s Tour kick off that day in Boom’s home nation of The Netherlands, it also starts with an event that’s right up his alley—an 8.9-kilometer time trial in Amsterdam.

Boom, you might remember, raced his Giant Trinity Advanced SL time trial bike to victory in the prologue at this spring’s Paris-Nice stage race. At 8 kilometers, the Paris-Nice prologue was a similar distance to the upcoming Tour prologue in Amsterdam.

So Boom has already worn one yellow jersey in France this year, and he’s eying the possibility of wearing another in July.

A 10-time Dutch Cyclocross Champion, Boom began his transition to road racing in 2009—and quickly started scoring impressive results. He won his first grand tour stage at the Vuelta a España last year.

As the only Netherlands-based team in this year’s Tour de France, Rabobank will be the home favorites at the prologue and Stage 1, which starts in Amsterdam before crossing into Belgium.

“The Tour is starting in Holland this year, it’s very special for a Dutch rider and a Dutch team,” Boom says.

MOUNTAIN BIKING AT ITS BEST IN THE VINEYARDS

(Cape Town – 21 June 2010) If you haven’t yet entered Die Burger Mountain Bike Challenge you must hurry as entries are limited to 3,000 riders.

Now in its fifth year, the MTB Challenge takes place on Saturday, 31 July, and will be hosted at the Markötter Fields (Paul Roos Gymnasium) in Stellenbosch. The event, which is renowned for its challenging and picturesque routes, will also be held in association with the Simonsberg Conservancy and will boast four scenic routes to cater for all levels of riding.

The Routes
Meurant Botha of Dirtopia, who has been designing and maintaining mountain bike trails for over ten years, says that the four routes will pass through more than 20 wine farms, giving riders the opportunity to tackle some of the best and most beautiful trails in the country.

The 60km route will traverse several local mountains and is not for the faint hearted! Riders can look forward to some serious climbing, technical descents and lots of single track. While the winner is expected to conquer the route in around three hours, the average participant will take between four and five hours to complete the race.

The 42km is a tough challenge and not for beginners, which will mirror the 60km route up until Delheim Estate from where they will head back towards the R301 and Stellenbosch.

The 30km ride follows a relatively flat route towards Spier Estate and is perfect for those who feel that the 15km will be too short, but don't feel like tackling the climbs of the 42km. This is usually one of the most popular routes of the event.

The 15km has proven itself as perfect for novices and follows a shortened version of the 30km route with identical start and finish sections.

“This year also sees the introduction of a brand new 75km Ultra route, which is open by invitation only and to a limited field of about 200 riders, thereby attracting the best of the best in the mountain biking fraternity,” adds Botha.

“The top male and female finisher in the 75km category will also each walk away with a R5,000 prize purse.”

Entries
Entries will close on 19 July, or as soon as the 3,000 entry limit (750 riders per route) is reached. If you pre-enter you will also stand a chance to win a two-night stay at d’Ouwe Werf Hotel in Stellenbosch. A Giant Ovation Mountain Bike to be won at the lucky draw!
